Are Floating Shelves strong?

Yes. Despite the fact you cannot see the wall fixing, it is still there. Your floating shelves will be sturdy, providing they are fixed to the wall correctly, following the instructions we provide. The shelf’s strength can depend on its size, and how many studs are used to mount it. Location is also important, as shelves tend to maintain higher weight capacity when mounted on masonry blocks or wall studs.

How much weight can floating shelves hold?

This depends largely on factors such as wall structure and integrity, amount of studs used, and shelf depth. If you’re thinking of storing heavier items on your shelving and have concerns, please get in touch for an accurate estimate on your shelf strength, as determined by your unique order.

How to Install Floating Shelves?

First, find out that your wall is made of. Wall studs give the best support base, but they can also be fixed in a spot with no studs. Knowing the wall type also helps in determining which hardware will work for the installation. Drywall, or plasterboard, needs the additional support of ‘wall anchors’ for a sturdy foundation. However, no additional support is needed to hang a floating shelf and bracket in a stud wall.

  • Measure and mark the space on both ends where you want the shelf to go.
  • Draw a discrete line using a level across the wall to ensure the shelf will not sag and sit straight.
  • For the wall anchors, you will need to drill pilot holes into the wall.
  • Insert hollow anchors into newly drilled holes, following the direction on the package.
  • Using a screwdriver, attach brackets to the wall, aligning it with anchor filled holes.
  • Slide shelf onto brackets.
